Alex Heike: Logan Central man jailed for DV offences

‘Who’s there with you, you c***?’: A Logan prisoner called a woman up to 45 times a day from prison, a court has heard.

HerStory: What goes on behind closed doors

A Logan arborist and father-of-four children has been jailed for 15 months for duping prison authorities at Wacol and Aldershot into allowing him to make “hundreds and hundreds and hundreds” of abusive phone calls to a woman, sometimes up to 45 per day.

Logan Central man Alexander James Heike, 33, appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday via videolink where he pleaded guilty to more than a dozen offences.

They included five counts of giving false and misleading information as a prisoner, three counts of calling a phone number knowing it would be diverted to an unapproved person, a multiple counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

The court heard the offences were committed largely between December 24, 2019 and June 11, 2020 while he was incarcerated at Brisbane and Maryborough correctional centres.

Heike “acted in a deceptive way” with prison authorities, including misrepresenting who he was calling and calling numbers he knew would divert elsewhere, in order to continue his campaign of “control” over the woman, police prosecutor Timothy Wise told the court.

Mr Wise said the “violent” Heike would call the woman up to 45 times a day, a process he described as “voluminous bombarding”.

Disturbing details of some of the calls were read onto the public record.

“Who’s there with you, you c***? I’ll f****** murder you c***,” Heike abused the woman at one point.

The court heard the majority of Heike’s offending occurred while in custody and on a four-year suspended sentence imposed in the District Court in 2016.

Defence lawyer Katherine Hanson told the court her client was a man of “limited” intellectual capacity who “becomes frustrated when he feels misunderstood”.

She claimed the woman helped facilitated the contact from prison on some occasions.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll set Heike’s parole eligibility as at today, in light of the extended period of time he has spent in custody already.
