A man charged by police for allegedly failing to appear at his supreme court sentence for the alleged possession of 20 grams meth, has had his bail denied.
Appearing at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday (June 27) Alec Cameron Macdonald, 45, of Woodridge was deemed too great a risk for release.
Macdonald faces a single charge of breaching bail.
Police will allege the defendant was due to be sentenced at Brisbane Supreme Court on June 2 on charges relating to the alleged possession of 20 grams of meth.
Police intercepted Macdonald while driving after he allegedly failed to notify them of his supreme court absence.
Police prosecutor Tahlia Boettcher said the defendant posed an unacceptable risk of reoffending due to his chequered criminal history.
It included failing to report on 10 previous occasions, a two-year jail term in 2016 and a sentence for assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence) in January.
Macdonald’s defence solicitor said his client had been “virtually bedridden” from illness at the time of his scheduled court appearance.
The defence said he had notified his solicitors of his impending absence at court the day before the matter and was waiting on a response from them.
Magistrate Terry Duroux said Macdonald exhibited a “clear course of conduct” of allegedly ignoring court orders.
The defendant had his bail denied and he was remanded to custody.
He is next scheduled to appear at court on July 13.
