LESS than six months after taking the helm of Logan City Council, administrator Tamara O’Shea has streamlined the council committee system.
Under the current structure, there are six committees and one special committee overseeing areas ranging from treasury, roads, water, planning, parks, animals, the environment, waste, centres and the community.

At yesterday’s committee meetings, Ms O’Shea agreed to cutting that back to four and axing the special city centres committee.

The new committees will be City Governance; City Infrastructure; City Planning, Economic Development and Environment; and City Lifestyle.
Under the new regime for the remainder of this year, the four committees will be held every Wednesday before the full council meeting.
Next year, before the election, they will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday in the week before the full council meeting.
Logan mayoral candidate Darren Power welcomed the changes and said previously there were too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
“These changes ensure the chairs and the mayor will no longer hold the balance of power,” he said.
“The old structure was top heavy and a number of committees seemed to exist just so the chair could have a position.
“Moving forward, these changes lay the foundations for a much more co-operative council.”
