A soccer coach father’s extraordinary, drug-induced “fantasy world” lead him to create fake catfish dating profiles posing as a teen lesbian, a court has heard.

Adam Jacob Pollard, 43, created fake Tinder accounts and joined LGBT social media forums in April, 2022, where he posed as an 18-year-old lesbian girl.

The Pallara delivery co-ordinator began talking to a 12-year-old girl, who was unknown to him, pretending to be a teenage girl named Sara, and the conversations quickly turned sexual.

Pollard spoke to her about having sex, playing with her breasts and asked her to send him a naked photo and video, heard Beenleigh District Court on October 26.

The 12-year-old girl sent Pollard the explicit photo and a video but her mother entered her room and saw the sexually inappropriate messages, photos and alerted the police.

The police traced the Instagram and Tinder profiles back to Pollard and arrested him at his home days later.

Pollard pleaded guilty to two counts of using the internet to procure a child under the age of 16.

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, the child’s mother shared the traumatic effect Pollard’s behaviour had on the family.

“My confidence has been massively affected, I feel I am unable to trust anybody or even trust myself,” she said in a statement to the court.

“It has affected my wellbeing, I’m overprotective and have been anxious and depressed for the last 17 months since it happened.”

The court heard Pollard was a heavy cannabis user at the time of the offending and was living in a “fantasy world”, due to stress in his personal life, amplified by drug use.

Pollard told the court he found stress relief through use of pornography and was not actively seeking children online.

The court heard Pollard used to work with animals but finished that occupation shortly before this offending, he now worked as a delivery co-ordinator and coached his son’s soccer team.

Judge Deborah Holliday deliberated over giving Pollard a custodial order, where an actual term behind bars would be served.

“This is serious offending, a real child was involved and it is a borderline decision, on whether to serve a custodial sentence,” she said.

“I need to protect the Queensland community from you.

“I accept you have abstained from cannabis, were acting under stress and you are of otherwise good character.”

Pollard was sentenced to 15 months prison, wholly suspended for two years and placed on probation.
