19-year-old Logan man “terrifies” family with bloody break-in: Police

The horrific details of how a woman was allegedly kidnapped at knifepoint by a 19-year-old intruder have been revealed in court.

Australia's Court System

A 19-year-old man will spend the next month and a half on remand while he awaits his next court appearance for what police allege was a terrifying, protracted armed home invasion and abduction.

Appearing at Beenleigh Magistrates Court George Zacharious Tito, 19, of Park Ridge appeared stunned when he had his bail denied.

Tito faced charges of deprivation of liberty (domestic violence offence); entering a dwelling with intent at night (domestic violence offence); threats (domestic violence) and common assault (domestic violence).

Police allege Tito on December 29 scaled a six foot fence, broke in through a door and confronted a woman he knew in her bedroom with a pair of scissors in one hand and a knife in the other.

Drawn by his daughter’s distressed calls, the victim’s father allegedly uncovered Tito where he was hiding in a cupboard.

Despite copping a punch from the distressed father the court heard Tito refused to leave the property until his accomplice waiting out the front of the victim’s property allegedly warned: “Cuz, we need to leave, this is getting serious”.

During the alleged ordeal Tito made 10 superficial cuts to his own arm threatening that he would kill himself.

The court heard Tito then allegedly grabbed the victim by the wrist, dragged her to a waiting vehicle and ordered her to place her head on his lap.

He faced a charge of threats for allegedly telling the victim he knew people who could hurt her family should she not comply.

According to court documents, Tito allegedly held the woman against her will at a Park Ridge residence on December 30, where he covered her mouth with his hand to keep her quiet.

There, the alleged victim refused to divulge her mobile PIN number but Tito managed to guess it and called the woman’s current partner to warn him off continuing to see her.

Magistrate Terry Duroux noted the man allegedly had to be contacted numerous times by police before he gave himself up in the aftermath.

According to police, Tito returned the woman’s phone when he came to the station and admitted he had removed its SIM card so they could not locate him.

Tito’s defence solicitor Lex Weddell acknowledged his client’s alleged victims would have been “very terrified” but had seemingly not suffered “real damage”.

Mr Weddell noted Tito had no criminal record, was youthful and shared no social circles with the alleged victim.

The court heard that any risk posed by Tito could be reasonably limited by strict reporting duties to police.

Magistrate Duroux remained unconvinced in the face of what he described as allegedly insidious offending at the “higher end of the scale”.

Tito was remanded in custody and is next scheduled to appear at court on March 9.
