Quest Local Sports Stars Award Winners announced

QUEST Community News and the Gold Coast Bulletin have crowned their Local Sports Stars award winners. Check out the full list.

Queensland winners of the Quest Community News Local Sports Stars awards at the awards night on November 1.

From international rock climbing to sprinting against Usain Bolt, the Local Sports Stars awards celebrated the inspiring sporting achievements of more than 30 young people across southeast Queensland.

With hundreds of nominations our sports stars were the cream of the crop across awards for individuals, teams, and sporting spirit.

Junior Sports Star of the Year awardee Riley Day said she was excited to have been crowned the overall winner.

The 17-year-old sprinter won two gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games and is being lauded as one of Australia’s greatest up and coming athletes.

“There’s so many amazing athletes in the running for it, so I congratulate them as well for being a finalist, but it’s a shock and an honour,” she said.

“I know Brenden (Hall) has won the award before as well so there’s been so many amazing athletes that have won the award in previous years.”

Double Paralympic gold medallist Brenden Hall paid tribute to the young talent at the awards evening and gave some advice.

“The best advice is if you love it, and you enjoy it, don’t stop,” he said..“If you can, adjust (your attitude), or change it, and put it in the right direction, who knows what (you) can achieve.”

The 23-year-old former Quest Community News Youngstar awardee is training six days a week ahead of the Commonwealth Games, with more gold in his sights.
