A NEW outdoor cinema at Kelvin Grove is closer to becoming reality.

A Brisbane City Council spokesman said an amenities building was being constructed at EE McCaskie Oval, in anticipation for a permanent outdoor cinema to open there.

“The new outdoor cinema will provide residents with an exciting new lifestyle and leisure opportunity for the Kelvin Grove Urban Village and the wider community,” he said.

“Council is currently delivering an amenities building at EE McCaskie Oval (McCaskie Park), which will be next to the cinema, and includes a toilet, change room and kitchen facilities.

“The amenities building is expected to be completed in about two weeks.”

In 2017, Council Field Services Chairman Cr Peter Matic announced that plans had been approved for a permanent outdoor screen and performance space for the park. He said it was part of his 2016 re-election campaign. His release at the time said construction “would commence in mid-2018”.

“McCaskie Park is located in the heart of Kelvin Grove and I am committed to delivering an exciting new leisure and lifestyle opportunities for the Kelvin Grove Urban Village and wider community,” Cr Matic said.
