A “lonely” Logan cabinet maker who owns his own subcontracting business was busted driving nearly four times the legal limit after popping down to his local to seek friends.

Rochedale South man Jason Andrew Correa, 33, the owner of Regal Cabinetry, pleaded guilty to a single charge of high-range drink driving (UIL) stemming from a trip he took on the evening of September 12 this year.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard Correa was intercepted about 10.30pm on the Sunday night on Old Chatswood Rd at Daisy Hill by police conducting mobile patrols.

After discussion with Correa, police performed a roadside breath test which revealed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.184 per cent.

Defence lawyer Andrew Wiseman told the court Correa had had a “full day of work in the heat”, skipped lunch and didn’t drink enough water, had a few drinks at home then popped down to his local because he was “lonely”.

Correa then started boozing with friends who eventually asked him for a lift home, which is when Correa was busted.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll said he was “surprised” at Correa’s conduct in light of his unremarkable traffic record and professional success.

Correa was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for nine months.

A conviction was recorded.
