Floods bring back memories of Mud Army

As residents in the sodden southeast prepare to mop up this weekend, we look back at the stirring efforts of volunteers in 2011 and 2017.

It was a record-breaking week of wet weather from the Sunshine Coast to the Goldie and now thousands of people will be preparing for a backbreaking weekend cleaning up their properties.

But as sad and dispiriting as it will be, it is nothing compared with the clean-ups after the 2017 Logan floods and the 2011 Brisbane floods.

On both occasions, a volunteer Mud Army spontaneous emerged, with countless people lending their time and sweat to help the victims.
