A demountable building at a Brisbane school will be demolished to make room for larger verandas and outdoor learning areas.
Proposed extensions to the southern building at Brisbane Adventist College in Mansfield have been lodged to the council for approval.
Planning documents reveal the school has asked for an extension to a number of general learning areas, verandas and the roof to provide weather protection.
If granted, the building’s height would increase to 8.4m and gross floor area would increase by 144.6sqm.
An existing demountable building in the area would be demolished as it is in a “state of disrepair and unable to be used”.
The school insists the changes will not result in an increase of students or staff.
“The eastern portion of the southern primary building was constructed in the late 1960s and requires improvements to meet current modern teaching and learning practices,” the documents read.
“(The school) forms an integral part of the overall ministry strategy to the community to provide quality education at the most affordable cost to all members of the community, not just to members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.”
