ALL lanes widened as part of the Gateway Upgrade North project are expected to open to traffic by the end of the year, but project works will continue through to March.

The project, which started in early 2016, involves widening the motorway from four to six lanes from Nudgee to Deagon.

A Transport and Main Roads spokesman said they were currently working with the project’s principal contractor, Lendlease, to progress the final road surface asphalt works along the widened section.

“The newly widened lanes are expected to be completed and available for use at 80km/h by the end of 2018, weather and construction conditions permitting,” the spokesman said.

“In addition to the motorway widening, project works are continuing on the local road network connections, installing and commissioning Intelligent Transport Systems, finishing and landscaping works, with completion and lifting the motorway to its final speed limit, expected progressively through to March 2019.”

The $1.14 billion Gateway Upgrade North project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.
