ALL but four of the 300 animals found new homes as 5000 would-be pet owners searched for a furry friend at the RSPCA’s Big Adopt Out at the weekend.
So why didn’t anyone want this poor bull terrier-cross Winky?
Winky was one of the pooches who had to return to the RSPCA ownerless after his big day out.
“Winky is a good-natured slightly timid dog who was left tied up and abandoned in Mackay and arrived to us with only one functioning eye from an injury,” RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said.
“That may have made him less attractive than other animals at the event.”
Winky is a six-year-old Bull Terrier-cross and has been at the RSPCA for three months.
Mr Beatty said the odds were firmly in favour of pets with 296 animals finding new homes.

“Small dogs and greyhounds were extremely popular and the event was busy as soon as the gates opened.” Mr Beatty said.
“It was wonderful to see a lot of long-timers which are often the larger breeds of dogs and older cats find homes.
“The event which has pets from the RSPCA and 19 animal rescue groups across south-east Queensland allows would-be pet owners to get the best information from people who understand the breeds and their needs such as those running greyhound and beagle rescues.”
Mt Beatty said there were more than 100 cats and dogs at the RSPCA in Wacol this week looking for homes. They include Webber, the one-year-old Bull Arab-cross, and cats George and Frankie who also went to the Big Adopt Out but couldn’t find forever homes.
To adopt Winky, Webber, George or Frankie go to RSPCA Queensland.
