A massive 12,000sqm shopping centre, which will house a new medical precinct, childcare centre and food warehouse is under construction in the heart of Richlands.
Located along Pine Rd, just off the highway, the Richlands HomeCo centre is one of the company’s nine centres currently under construction at locations across the country.
Plans for a Fresh & Save store, Goodlife Health Clubs, a Guardian Childcare and Education Centre, Chemist Warehouse and multiple medical and health stores are detailed in the development application.
HomeCo chairman and CEO David Di Pilla said the centre was expected to open by March next year.
“The site is strategically located and has a town-centre zoning, so it’s ideally situated for daily needs,” Mr Di Pilla said.
“We have a number of medical and health-related uses that we are targeting for the centre.”
Mr Di Pilla said leasing for these practices, which would include allied health practices like radiology and pathology, would be completed over the coming months.
Developer Tomkins is heading up the construction of the new childcare centre while Mainbrace Constructions are handling the balance of the centre.
Eight other centres are planned for areas in Victoria, West Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
Mr Di Pilla said the Richlands area was growing quickly and the HomeCo centre would act as a “catchment” for suburbs like Inala, Forest Lake and Durack.
“People are really focussed on hyper-convenience centres with... a very targeted shopping experience,” he said.
“It will service a need in a major growing catchment area in southwest Brisbane.”
