Cinema screens Star Wars session every 15 minutes

There are literally hundreds of screenings of the latest, and last, Star Wars movie today. One Brisbane cinema even has four screenings on the go at once — all day.

A northside Brisbane cinema is running a screening of the latest, and final, Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker, every 15 minutes.

The Star Wars feast at Reading Cinemas in Newmarket is reminiscent of another popular Hollywood movie, Groundhog Day.

When Reading opened two years ago it had special midnight screenings of The Last Jedi.

Last night, it had no less than four midnight screenings of The Rise of Skywalker.

What are the highest grossing films of all time?

Over at Event cinemas in Indooroopilly, there are 39 screenings today, or more than all screenings combined of the other 12 movies it is showing.

It’s a similar story across the big cinema chains and some of the boutique outlets, with the industry hoping to cash in big time after what was a lacklustre year for hit movies.

“There were a lot of light sabres around at the midnight screenings,’’ Reading manager Jyle McCallion said.

“You could definitely pick the fans. There were even a couple of kids in costume and one would’ve been only six years old.

“It’s a two-and-a-half hour movie so they were pretty tired when they came out.’’

A check of online booking sites showed very few seats available for evening sessions this week, although early-morning screenings still have good availability.
