A delivery driver who turned up with 200 other people to a notorious carpark hoon event during lockdown has copped a $1400 fine but was told it would now be far higher.
Warehouse worker and delivery driver John Robin Goymour pleaded guilty to one charge of failing to comply with a COVID-19 public health direction.
Police present that night fined him $1334, but Magistrate Sue Ganasan said he was lucky as the fine had now substantially increased.
“You can now see the foolishness of this act,’’ Ms Ganasan told Goymour.
However, she took into account his guilty plea and very minor, dated criminal history which did not include similar offences.
She convicted Goymour, who was supported in court by his parents, and “rounded up’’ the fine to $1400.
At the time, police blasted the attendees’ “blatant disregard” for life.
“It is inexcusable what happened at Rochedale... and such blatant disregard for the lives of Queenslanders will not be tolerated,’’ State Disaster Coordinator Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said after the event.
