Candidates step up for electorates of Lilley and Petrie

North Brisbane voters have a choice of seven candidates in Lilley and six in Petrie for the federal election to be held on May 18.

NORTH Brisbane voters have a choice of seven candidates in Lilley and six in Petrie for the federal election to be held on May 18.

Lilley has been held by the ALP’s Wayne Swan since 1998; he is not standing for re-election.

It has been an ALP seat since 1980, except for a three-year period from 1996-98, when it was held by the LNP.

At the last federal election, Wayne Swan received 43.49 per cent of the primary vote and David Kingston (LNP) received 39.05 per cent.

The two candidate preferred result saw Mr Swan win the seat with 55.32 per cent.

The Greens candidate received 11.58 per cent of the primary vote, Family First 3.59 per cent and Liberal Democrats 2.29 per cent.

Petrie has been held by the LNP’s Luke Howarth since 2013.

It was an LNP seat for 12 years from 1996-2007 before being held by the ALP from 2007-13.

At the last federal election, Luke Howarth received 44.70 per cent of the primary vote ahead of Jacqui Pedersen (ALP) with 38.33 per cent.

The two candidate preferred result saw Mr Howarth win the seat with 51.65 per cent.

The Greens candidate received 7.37 per cent of the primary vote, Family First 5.11 per cent, Liberal Democrats 3.10 per cent and The Arts Party 1.34 per cent.

Voting this year can be done before election day at an early voting centre or via postal vote, or between 8am and 6pm on Saturday, May 18.
