For thousands of nervous children and anxious parents this Wednesday will mark a milestone event - the first day of school.
The Prep pupils of 2021 face an exciting first day and a few changes since COVID rules came into play.

In celebration of that special first day we spoke to four little starters who told us why school is so important to them and to get the ball rolling here are their stories:
ASHA GOLLEDGE, 5, Kimberley Park State School
What do you want to be when you grow up?
“A princess and a fire girl. I want to be a princess because they are pretty and I want to be a fire girl because I get to wear a red suit.”
What do you think about starting Prep?
“I am excited because lots of my friends will be there from daycare and I am excited about using the playground.”
Asha’s father Dean said starting school was creating a lot of excitement around the house this week, with Asha definitely ready to move from daycare into “big school”.
“We haven’t been told officially if we can take her into the classroom, we might have to stand out the front and wave her off. Hopefully we find out soon.”
NATE PIZZONI, 5, St Peters Catholic Primary School, Rochedale
What do you want to be when you grow up?
“I wan to be a spaceman so I can collect gold rocks out of space.”
What do you think about starting Prep?
“I am excited about school and all the cool food I am going to be able to eat.”
Mum Tina said she was also excited about the first day of school even though she was still waiting on confirmation on whether she could walk into the grounds or not because of COVID rules.
“I would love to walk him into class but it is what it is and he is so ready for it and that is what is important.”
ISOBEL MCLAUGHLIN, 5, Wishart State School
What do you want to be when you grow up?
“I want to fix lights because some of my friends fix lights.”
What do you think about starting Prep?
“I am ready for school because I am going to play in the playground and that will be fun.”
Mother Carolyn said she Isobel was a confident child and she was ready to say goodbye to her at the gates without walking her in if need be.
“I’m excited for her and think she will love all the opportunities that school will offer her”
ELENI GRIFFIN, 5, Calvary Christian College
What do you want to be when you grow up?
“I want to be a police girl because they have flashing lights when they go to an emergency.”
What do you think about starting Prep?
“I’m excited because my cousins will be there.”
Mother of two Rebecca said seeing her first born start school was going to be a milestone event.
“I am excited for her and we are not nervous. I am able to take her into class unless things change between now and Wednesday and I am excited about her starting the next part of her life.”
