Amazing video fly-through shows what Riverwalk will be like

Brisbane’s newest bike and pedestrian path will offer stunning views of the Indooroopilly reach of the Brisbane River.

Indooroopilly Riverwalk Fly-Through

An amazing video fly-through showing what cyclists and pedestrians will experience when the Indooroopilly Riverwalk is finished has been released.

The $58 million project is designed to take people off dangerous, narrow Radnor St, the site of many accidents in recent years.

It will connect the newly-upgraded Witton Barracks play area, on the downstream side of Walter Taylor Bridge, with Twigg St near Ambrose Treacy College.

Cyclists and pedestrians will be separated, like on the Bicentennial Bikeway at Toowong, vastly improving safety for the dozens of ATC students who walk to school through the area every day.

The area is also part of a popular river route for the Lycra-clad weekend cycling set and has the thumbs up from Bicycle Queensland and from Brisbane West Bicycle Users Group co-convener Chris Cox.

Indooroopilly bikeway to cost $73k per metre

Cycle link from Toowong to St Lucia could cost up to $130m

Former LNP councillor for the area, Julian Simmonds, now the federal MP for Ryan, previously committed to building the first two stages in one go to speed up the project.

The 5m wide riverwalk will be built high atop pylons driven into the riverbed, keeping the riding/walking surface level with Radnor St so it cannot be flooded.

Work started several weeks ago and will operate out of temporary site offices and carparks at Witton Barracks and from a pontoon on the Graceville side of the river.

Council said the riverwalk would significantly improve active transport through the area, by providing a safe route from Twigg St to the Jack Pesch Bridge and the Indooroopilly Rail Station, with additional connections to Radnor St and Riverview Tce.

A viewing platform would be created along the new riverwalk for access to views of the Brisbane River and the Walter Taylor Bridge.

Following a tender period in 2019, Georgiou Brady Joint Venture was the successful tenderer to undertake construction of the riverwalk.

The intersection at Foxton/Radnor streets would be upgraded to create a safer environment for all road users, current Walter Taylor Councillor James Mackay announced recently.

Construction is expected to be finished late next year.
