PARKING at Nundah railway station is on the Federal ALP’s radar, with $200,000 committed for a study to examine options for expanding the car park.

Shadow Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese announced the funding this morning.

The study will be funded through Federal Labor’s $300 million National Park and Ride Fund, which has already committed funds for a $7 million multistorey car park at Northgate station, and the purchase of council land for more car parks at Geebung station.

In each case a similar funding amount would need to be provided by the Queensland Government.

Mr Albanese said the existing 245-space car park at Nundah station was full by 7.30am on most weekdays.

“Commuters rushing to catch their trains to work are forced to park in surrounding streets and walk to the station, causing inconvenience for local residents.”

Mr Albanese said the study would be an important first step towards a solution to the parking shortage.

“Public transport isn’t just about the train line or bus route itself. It’s also about the surrounding infrastructure that makes it work for local residents,” he said.

Labor candidate for Lilley Anika Wells said, “Doorknocking the streets around Nundah village, it is clear that locals are copping the brunt of overdevelopment and want something done about it.

“If elected, we’ll get cracking — this study is the first step forward in giving all levels of government guidance on how best to resolve the Nundah parking issue.”
