A Calamvale painter has landed in court after police caught him with 2.5kg of drugs and over $5000 in cash stashed in his car.

Alem Malic, 22, pleaded guilty in district court at Beenleigh on Tuesday to possessing dangerous drugs in excess of 500 grams, possessing property suspected of have being used in the proceeds of an offence and possessing property suspected of have being used in the commission of a drug offence.

The court heard police uncovered a large amount of drugs after stopping and searching Malic’s vehicle Slacks Creek on June 19, 2020.

Police observed Malic’s hands shaking when they pulled him over and found about 2.5kg of cannabis, $5270 in cash and a set of digital scales during the search.

Malic told police that some of the money was from selling items for cash, as well as working as a painter.

Malic’s lawyer told the court his client was using cannabis “as a means of escapism.”

Judge Craig Chowdhury ordered him to complete a 12 month suspended sentence of imprisonment. Convictions were recorded.
