Adventurous possum hacksawed out of drainpipe

This cheeky possum was caught in a plastic downpipe at Yeronga but was rescued by RSPCA Wacol's Jared King.

The curious little chap became stuck in a downpipe at a Yeronga unit complex last week after trying to squeeze through the outlet, which was narrower than the rest of the piping.

How do I get out of this one?

I knew this was a bad idea.

“It was stuck on so the safest thing to do was saw off a section and take him back to our shelter at Wacol,’’ RSPCA animal rescue officer Jared King (pictured) said.

“The owner was very understanding and didn’t mind.

“The vet sedated him and, after a quick examination, then I gently sawed him out.

That’s one way to free a foolish possum. RSPCA Wacol animal rescue officer Jared King carefully saws part of a drainpipe off the (sedated) little fellow.

“The vet said he was very cold and dehydrated and had probably been stuck in there for at least a day.’’

The possum was kept under observation at the RSPCA facility for a week, but has made a full recovery and will be released.
