QUT students are in a state of uproar following the biannual period of class registration, with a number of online posts savaging the university systems.

Shock numbers of students from QUT are complaining after they were unable to register for classes due to insufficient spaces being available.

Several students are also raising eyebrows after they were unable to get into certain classes due to class lists being full prior to the dedicated registration time.

A student on QUT StalkerSpace 2.1 posted that the ineffective timetable planning is partly why they never go to their tutorials.

“So sick of QUT’s inability to create a better registration system,” they said.

Other students have questioned why dual degree courses offer classes earlier to students who are taking the single degree.

“Almost no chance to get the classes you want,” another student posted.

Meanwhile QUT Guild President Zoe Davidson said students face the same problem each year; heading into the portal to select a class, to find that all classes are full, and that they need to be waitlisted.

“Whilst this is usually resolved by week 1, students need certainty with these enrolments to be able to make the appropriate arrangements beyond the campus,” she said.

“As cost of living is unquestionably increasing, students face the choice between an education and food on the table,” Ms Davidson said.

Ms Davidson said it was vital students were provided opportunities to enrol in first preferences that align with their beyond-university commitments such as work.

“Knowing our class schedule is so critical in then making sure we can communicate this to our employers or make plans for home.

“We are pleased to be offered the opportunity to consult on this strategy over the coming months to finding a better resolution,” Ms Davidson said.

Meanwhile a QUT spokeswoman said QUT was pleased that enhancements they have made to class registration since semester 1 last year have resulted in an improved experience this year, as judged by feedback they received

“But we know we still have more to do and ... we are only half way through our planned improvements which we will continue to roll out over the next 18 months,” she said.

“These will provide further enhancements to improve student experience significantly by introducing more information for students and more ways to express their preferences.”
