Winners and losers of Southern Downs schools revealed

The winners and losers of our region’s education can be revealed, with a surprise school taking the title of the Southern Downs’ richest school. See how your school stacks up.

Warwick State High School

Southern Downs’ richest school has raked in more than $74.6m in five years with the total income per student sitting at $22,098 in 2022, the most recent school funding statistics reveal.

An independent analysis of school financial records from the MySchool website have shown the massive amount of money some schools make every year, and how little some schools are forced to scrape by on.

WINNERS

The figures revealed Warwick State High School in Warwick had a higher gross income than any other school in the Southern Downs region.

The school made a gross income of $74.6m, according to financial records from the combined past five years.

The school’s income increased by 5 per cent between 2018 and 2022.

The region’s second richest school was Stanthorpe State High School, in Stanthorpe, which had a gross income of $64.2m.

Its total gross income per student in 2022 was $21,235.

The school with the third highest gross income was The Scots PGC College, in Warwick, which made $52.5m.

Its total gross income per student in 2022 was $26,468.

The figures include all fees, charges and parental contributions as well as state and federal government funding and any other private sources over the five years from 2018 to 2022.

It does not include any deductions for capital works or debt servicing.

The analysis does not include special schools or schools that did not have complete financial data in MySchool for one or more of the five years.

LOSERS

Maryvale State School at Maryvale had the lowest gross income of any school in the Southern Downs region.

It made just $2.2m over the five year period.

Its total gross income increased by 47 per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $37,819.

Dalveen State School at Dalveen had the second lowest gross income of any school in the Southern Downs region.

It made just $2.4m over the five year period.

Its total gross income increased by 9 per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $29,060.

Murray’s Bridge State School at Murrays Bridge had the third lowest gross income of any school in the Southern Downs region.

It made just $2.4m over the five year period.

Its total gross income increased by 64 per cent from 2018 to 2022 while the total gross income per student in 2022 was $42,172.
