Top performing Sunshine Coast, Noosa NAPLAN schools revealed in last 5 years

One of the Sunshine Coast’s most respected private schools has reinforced its reputation after emerging as the region’s top performing NAPLAN school.
Matthew Flinders Anglican College principal Stuart Meade said the college’s “aspirational culture and unwavering commitment” to evidence-informed teaching, coupled with its dedicated staff had delivered the outcomes.
An independent analysis of five years of NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which consistently performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests between 2017 and 2021.
Over that five-year period, Matthew Flinders Anglican College, in Buderim, had higher Year 5 yearly results than any other school in the Sunshine Coast, scoring an average of 2675.0 each year.

Mr Meade said while NAPLAN was only one measure among many used to review and refine their curriculum, he was “proud and pleased” that the students had performed well on the tests.

“While we are pleased to know that our students are attaining high levels of literacy and numeracy, we also know that we must ensure that creativity and innovation are always present, and that developing our students as people of strong moral character who display curiosity, creativity and entrepreneurial dispositions is equally important,” he said.
Caloundra City Private School in Pelican Waters was the second best for the region with an average score of 2648.0, while St Andrew‘s Anglican College in Peregian Springs was the third best with an average score of 2625.3.
The top performing Year 9 school was Matthew Flinders Anglican College, in Buderim, where the average yearly result was 3091.3 over the five years.

Sunshine Coast Grammar School in Forest Glen was the second best for the region with an average score of 3071.8, while Immanuel Lutheran College in Buderim was the third best with an average score of 3001.8.
To determine how each school performed between 2017 and 2021, their average scores for each year were combined and the yearly average found.
Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in either year, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects in either year were excluded from the analysis.
The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government‘s MySchool website.
