An exclusive Courier-Mail analysis of individual state primary annual reports for schools among the southeast has showed those who missed the most days of learning.
There were 81 statewide exclusions handed out to students across Years 1-6, with 59 of them from schools in the southeast, the analysis revealed.
Some of the primary schools with high exclusion numbers included Browns Plains, Kingston and Shailer Park state schools, with four each.
For short suspensions, Yarrabilba recorded the most in the southeast with 246, while several other schools each handed out more than 150.
Queensland Association of State School Principals president Pat Murphy said school leaders would opt towards several strategies prior to suspending or excluding a child.
He said disciplinary actions were a last resort and that many Queensland principals could have a lengthy career without ever excluding a student.
“It’s not something done regularly,” Mr Murphy said.
“Normally we work with their family, and they go to another setting and transition.
“It’s a reset for the student.”
In total, the state government data showed there were 78,026 school disciplinary absences handed out in 2022, a decrease of about 5000 compared to 2021.
