Eight members of Queensland’s Class of ‘22 achieved top marks for their International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, with the results released on Tuesday.

The IB program is an alternative to the traditional Queensland Certificate of Education, it has a maximum possible score of 45 which can then be converted to an ATAR equivalent result.

Last year, 601 students from 19 Queensland schools chose an IB diploma, compared to 735 students across 14 schools in 2021.

IB Schools Australasia released results to participating schools and students individually.

It does not release broad data that would allow for comparison between schools and students.

The Class of ‘22 Australian average is 35.6, compared to the global average of 30.9.

Three Queensland schools have released their IB results publicly so far.

Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) Year 12 graduate Matthew Bond achieved the school’s first perfect 45 score.

He was also part of the 2022 GPS Premiership winning Senior Debating Team.

“I was incredibly proud to achieve a 45. It was definitely a moment of great relief and a great sense of achievement, culminating my many years of academics,” Matthew said.

He plans to study a Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours) at UQ with the Vice-Chancellors Scholarship this year.

Meanwhile, seven Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology students also received perfect IB results.
