A Brisbane school has been evacuated and police called after a bomb threat.

Stretton State College, a Prep-Year 12 school on Brisbane’s southern outskirts, undertook a “precautionary evacuation … due to a threat received”, according to Executive Principal Jan Maresca.

“Please be assured that the safety and welfare of your children and that of our staff is our utmost priority,” Ms Maresca wrote on the College’s Facebook page just before 10am.

“The police are in attendance to investigate and if safe classes will resume based on their advice.”

About 20 minutes later, Ms Maresca posted an update.

“We are pleased to advise that we have safely managed this morning’s situation together with QPS.

“Students are now all heading back to classes to resume their normal timetabled lessons. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.”

A Department of Education spokesman confirmed a bomb threat forced the college’s evacuation and that students were kept off campus for almost 90 minutes.

“The Department is aware of a suspected bomb threat received at Stretton State College at approximately 8:35am today,” the spokesman said.

“The Queensland Police Service was notified and the school followed the Department’s protocol for responding to bomb threats.

“QPS searched the school and gave the all-clear at around 9:55am. All staff and students were safe and well.

“Parents and caregivers were informed of the situation. Guidance Officer support is available for any students who may require it.”

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed officers were called to the College about 9am over reports of a threat having been made.

“A search of the premises was conducted and the area was deemed safe,” the spokesman said.

“Police urge anyone with information to come forward, anonymous reports can be made.”
