Queensland schools have taken out the bulk of the top categories at the most recent education awards, with the country’s best private, regional and special schools from the Sunshine State.
As revealed by The Courier-Mail earlier this week, Marsden State High School was named the best public high school in the country for the second time in three years at the annual Australian Education Awards held in Sydney.
Fraser Coast Anglican College was named Regional School of the Year, while Bellbird Park State Secondary College took home the gong for Special Education School of the Year.
Bellbird Park teacher Zainab Ali was named as the country’s top public high school teacher.
The innovative Hymba Yumba Independent School in Springfield was named the country’s non-government Secondary School of the Year.
Faith Lutheran College Redlands was awarded the win for Innovation in Curriculum Design, while Ormiston College took home the award for Best Use of Technology for the third time in the past five years.
The school was also acknowledged with excellence awards in four other categories including Primary School of the Year, Secondary School of the Year and Principal of the Year.
Headmaster Brett Webster said the school was “elated” with the recognition.
“To receive excellence awards in five categories this year is an outstanding achievement and testament to the capacity and dedication of our whole team, as well as the strategic focus of the college and the way we commit to continual improvement for the good of our students,” he said.
“But then, to be announced overall winner for Best Use of Technology for the third time in five years is truly something special.”
The award ceremony was held at Doltone House on Darling Island on the Sydney Harbour.
