Queensland teachers are quitting in droves.

More teachers are considering leaving the profession with some schools in the south east corner advertising as many as twelve jobs at a time.

According to the Queensland Government smart jobs website, it shows over a hundred teacher vacancies which have opened across Queensland in metro and highly populated areas.

South Brisbane appeared to have some of the highest number of teacher vacancies with more than 50 on offer and several schools in need of mathematics and English teachers as well as other vital subjects.

Ipswich State High School which has 12 jobs on offer includes science, math, health and physical education, English, humanities and digital technology teachers.

But it’s a similar story in rural and remote areas with Sarina State High School in Mackay also offering up to seven jobs for teachers including maths, science and English.

A Department spokesman said it maintained a strong overall teacher workforce, consistently hiring more teachers than are lost through natural attrition.

“Queensland’s current teacher vacancy rate remains stable at around 2 per cent, and the Department actively recruits teachers throughout the year to meet student and school

needs.”

“Teacher retention in Queensland state schools remains high, with approximately 95 per cent of teachers staying in the profession. This is among the highest in the country,” they said.
