An elite Brisbane private school student has been filmed confronting fellow students with a knife following a dispute believed to have been sparked over a bag of lollies.
Video footage has emerged of an Anglican Church Grammar School student in possession of a knife while in the company of other students.
Chuchie headmaster Dr Alan Campbell said the “distressing” incident happened on Saturday, February 18.
Dr Campbell said no student was injured during the incident and confirmed the college was liaising with police.
“We take the welfare of all students very seriously and we are currently liaising with the Queensland Police Service, who are investigating, to understand how this incident occurred,” Dr Campbell said.
Dr Campbell said he was not aware of any similar incidents having occurred at the college – which charges annual school fees of more than $27,000.
“Clearly, there is never any justification for bringing a knife into a school environment,” Dr Campbell said.
“Ultimately, we are committed to providing an environment in which young people are cared for, feel supported, and have a right to feel safe.
“This incident reminds us that the young people in our care, more than ever, require us to be ever vigilant and sensitive while providing clear boundaries and high standards in the behaviour we expect.”
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a 14-year-old boy had been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act following an incident at an East Brisbane school on February 18.
The spokeswoman said officers from the Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit were working closely with the school as part of investigations and would continue to provide support.
A source at the school told The Courier-Mail that the incident involved Year 9 students.
The video, which has been muted to not identify anyone, showed the armed student accusing another student of stealing a bag of lollies.
The student is heard on video asking the other student: “Where did you put my s---? You took all the lollies from my bag. Why did you eat it all?”
Another student in the video denied eating the lollies and is heard telling the student to “put the f---ing knife away”.
The video shows the student putting the knife away into a case in a bag.
