One of the Gold Coast’s longest-operating businesses has closed its doors for the last time.
Saville’s Meats butchery at Helensvale has ceased trading and its site is now on the market,
In a statement posted on its social media on Thursday night, the owners of the business, which has traded for 112 years, announced had closed permanently “with a heavy heart”
“It is with a heavy heart that us here at Savilles are saddened to share with you all that we are now permanently closed for good,” the statement reads.
“This has not been an easy ride or easy decision for us as a family to make as we did have future mindsets to continue on for more generations.
“Due to costs and family reasons we have had to make the hard decision of having to close down.
“We are extremely sorry for this shocking news and for the inconvenience.
“We would like to thank each and every one for their care, support and loyalty
“Wishing you all the best in the future.
“We thank you all loads and entirely. “
The building is now on the market.
The Saville’s Meats butchery on Helensvale’s Millennium Circuit will be auctioned on July 24, with developers and investors circling the site.
Josh Wright, director of Crew Commercial, is marketing the sale and said there were several possible uses of the land for its new owners.
“After three generations of butchers serving the community, the family has made the difficult decision to hand over the property to new operators,” he said
“There is so much potential with this site.
“There are very few industrial properties on the Gold Coast that have specific approval for a manufacturer shop, which provides a unique opportunity for the next business who will operate from the premises.
“A variety of plant and equipment will be included in the sale, such as chillers, smokers, service counters, and food production equipment.
“The location offers a unique opportunity to attract customers commuting on the M1, as the property is just minutes from the nearest exit.
“The property may suit an owner occupier or an investor.”
Saville’s has been operating on the Gold Coast since 1913 and is one of the city’s longest-running businesses. The Helensvale parcel is 1503 sqm, with the building covering 753 sqm across two levels, including an office and boardroom.
It has a 20-space carpark, with the sale to include four walk-in chillers, three ham smokers and the existing service counters. Mr Wright said it was rare to have a sale of so many elements.
“Strategically positioned next to the M1 Pacific Motorway, the site offers seamless connectivity to southeast Queensland and northern NSW – two of Australia’s fastest-growing regions,” he said.
“The location is ideal for businesses looking to appeal to commuting traffic, the broader Gold Coast corridor, and beyond.
“Opportunities to purchase a freehold food production facility are rare, let alone set up with the equipment to start operating.”
The auction will take place at Crew Commercial’s offices in Southport on July 24 from 1pm
