From stunning acreage masterpieces to enviable coastal homes, the stunning creations of Mackay and Whitsundays builders were celebrated at the 2021 Housing and Construction Awards.
Urban Trend Construction swept the pool with six gongs including all three awards in the Specialty category.
The team took out the coveted house of the year title, as well as best individual home $950,000 up to $1.25m and best residential swimming pool all for the stunning Indochine House at Erakala.
Urban Trend Construction bagged a second hat-trick for their work on White House at Slade Point, winning best home renovation/remodelling project over $1m, best residential bathroom and best residential kitchen.
Fergus Builders also nabbed six awards including Education Facilities up to $10m for Holy Spirit College at Mount Pleasant.
Hotondo Homes Mackay also set the bar high by winning four awards, notably the prestigious president’s award for Marcoola 209, a modern and sophisticated home at Shoal Point.
Leith Mitchell Builder was a triple treat taking home best individual home from $750,000 up to $950,000, best use of sloping sites and best use of steel frame housing for botanica.
While Woollam Constructions claimed the hotly contested project of the year award for Ozcare Mackay, which also won the Award for best Community Accommodation for Aged Care and Nursing Homes.
Master Builders Mackay and Whitsundays regional manager Malcolm Hull congratulated the winners across all 39 categories announced at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre Saturday night.
“This year’s theme ‘built to rise above’ was inspired by our members, and the projects they’ve delivered during these challenging times are testament to their talent and resilience,” Mr Hull said.
“Since the pandemic first hit us back in 2020, our members have excelled in the face of adversity, and are continuing to amaze us with their tenacity.
“From sweeping homes capturing the beauty of our region, to world-class tourism facilities, inspiring sustainable projects, and individuals inspiring others, I am immensely proud of our Mackay and Whitsunday builders, tradies and everyone who is a part of what makes this industry so great.
“Whether they’ve taken an Award home this year or not, all our 2021 entrants are part of the Master Builders family and contribute to our trusted and respected reputation.”

Modern and sophisticated home outranks its price tag
Winner of the 2021 Mackay and Whitsunday President’s Award – Marcoola 209 by Hotondo Homes Mackay
Made for family living, the Marcoola 209 is a modern-day marvel. This beautiful home impresses with its sleek exterior, creating enviable street appeal with the clever use of mixed materials.

Modern and beautifully crafted aged care living
Winner of the 2021 Mackay & Whitsunday Project of the Year – Ozcare Mackay by Woollam Constructions
The $33 million Ozcare Mackay project is a fantastic asset to Mackay, delivering aged care and accommodation that is second to none.
The state-of-the-art community is a place where residents, families and friends can enjoy shared spaces in a homely environment.
The facility features 120 aged care beds including specialist dementia care and respite care, as well offering a fantastic lifestyle for residents and visitors with a coffee shop, children’s playground, cinema, bowling green, and men’s shed.
With more than 2000 Mackay residents currently living with dementia, the two secure specialised wings housing 36 beds will help alleviate pressure on local services.
Woollam is commended for delivering the project to a high standard, on time and within budget.
The team maintained an exceptional working relationship with the client and all stakeholders throughout the build, engaging more than 35 local trades and creating 150 jobs, keeping the majority of contract dollars in the region.
