Gold Coast housing prices skyrocket

A Main Beach site overlooking The Spit and Broadwater has been unveiled as the location of an ultra-thin luxury tower.

The 23-storey high-rise has been put forward by developer GDI Group for a Cunningham Ave property fronting MacArthur Parade, next door to the newly completed The Monaco building.

It will have just 10 two-level skyhomes, each with three-bedroom, private internal lifts and its own wellness retreat.

GDI Group director Dean Gallagher said the Main Beach building was the company’s second in the suburb, following the under-construction 31-storey Drift Residences on Hughes Ave.

“This is a rare site in Main Beach with a small footprint and an unbeatable position,” he said.

“Our focus is on delivering an outcome that is both respectful and forward-thinking, ensuring it enhances the character of Main Beach.”

GDI has submitted a development application to the Gold Coast City Council for approval and it is expected to go before the planning committee in coming months.

Mr Gallagher said construction would begin before the end of the year if council approves the project, which is aimed at wealthy downsizers.

The unnamed building has been designed by global architecture firm Bureau Proberts.

Dan Liddy, who led the design team, said it was created to fit in with the suburb.

“This building takes cues from both its urban and natural context,” he said.

“The northern elevation is open and verdant, making the most of the expansive Broadwater and ocean views, while the remainder of the tower is shrouded in a concertina glass facade – transitioning between transparency and opacity to provide privacy where needed.”

The Cunningham Ave building is the latest in a wave of new unit projects for Main Beach which is set to welcome up to 1200 new residents in the next year as under-construction towers to reach completion.
