Wild new must-have accessory for Trump fans

Just days after Donald Trump was injured in an attempted assassination, fans of the former president have taken to wearing a wild new item.

It’s the new must have accessory everyone is talking about at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee,

No, not a red MAGA hat, or its fancy luxe gold version. Nor a bust of Donald Trump hewed from Indiana limestone, which is available, or a Christmas stocking with the presidential candidate’s mug shot on it.

Increasingly delegates at the event, that truly kickstarts the election campaign for Republicans, are showing their support for Trump by donning bandages on their right ear – similar to the one Trump himself has been wearing after the attempt on his life on Saturday.

“We’re doing this in solidarity with President Trump. We wish him well; we love him; we support him,” Stacey Goodman from Arizona told news.com.au in Milwaukee.

Her bandage was ducked just beneath her MAGA hat.

“Some delegates decided to do it a couple of days ago and now we’re all doing it.”

Ms Goodman added that the bandage had become “iconic”.

Donald Trump has yet to speak to the 50,000 strong crowd at the Republican National Convention (RNC). But on Monday he made a dramatic entrance on the convention floor, with the bandage in place, just days after the shocking incident in Butler, Pennsylvania.

A bullet grazed his ear, causing a minor injury. But father Corey Comperatore was slain by the gunman who was then shot dead by police.

“(Trump) just about got killed and we’ve been on the edge of tears for three or four days now,” said Lawrence Hudson, also from Arizona, who had a bandage strapped to his ear with surgical tape.

“He came here on Monday night. It was wonderful, I cried.

“This bandage is a gentle, light hearted way of expressing solidarity with him”.

Mr Lawrence wasn’t sure how long he would keep the bandage on but it had already noted its drawbacks.

“My hearing is a little bit less on my right hand side,” he confided.

It’s not just bandages. Convention-goers have also been spotted with Stars and Stripes Band Aids on their right ear – also in homage to Trump’s injury.

T-shirts have begun to appear at the Milwaukee venue with one of the now famous images from Pennsylvania showing Trump with his fist in the air and the phrase “fight, fight, fight,” which he mouthed as he got up from the stage.

Tattoos of Trump, surrounded by Secret Service agents after the attempt on his life, have also cropped up on some legs of Republican voters.

On Wednesday, the RNC will hear from Trump running mate and the man who could become Vice President JD Vance.

He only became a senator two years ago so it will be a chance for him to introduce him to Americans.

But the big event will be in Thursday night (Friday in Australia) when Donald Trump will take to the stage at prime time.

As much as his speech will excite the faithful in Milwaukee, the real audience will be at millions of homes across the US where Trump will pitch his presidency to a deeply divided nation.
