Donald Trump has announced ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will start “immediately ” after holding a two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Taking to Truth Social, the US President said he believed the lengthy phone call with his Russian counterpart went “very well”.

President Putin said he was ready to work with Ukraine on a memorandum towards a possible peace deal after the “useful” call but he insisted more compromises were necessary.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has fuelled conspiracy theories over the timing of Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis, saying he was “surprised” the former President’s health was kept from the public until now.
