The director of the iconic film, Titanic, has reportedly been approached to direct a drama series about the Titan submarine disaster.
The occupants of the submarine were destined to view the wreckage of the actual titanic, before going missing and the vessel ultimately imploding, killing all five passengers.
The Sun reports filmmaker James Cameron, who has dived to the Titanic shipwreck many times, has been asked to help recreate the Titan’s story.
A source told The Sun the Titan disaster was already being looked at as a major series for one of the world’s biggest streamers.
“James is first choice for director. It is a subject close to his heart,” the source is quoted as saying.
“He told the story of the Titanic so compassionately it feels like a natural step for him to take this on.
“Retracing the steps of those on board the Titan is a massive undertaking but there would be a lot of time, money and resources dedicated to it.”
On the wish list of actors for the potential new series is A-lister Matt Damon and Kumail Nanjiani.
An expert in deep-sea exploration, Mr Cameron won three Oscars for Titanic in 1998, including Best Picture.
