The situation quickly escalated as Gula pulled out what appeared to be a switch blade and thrust it at the staff member.
The building manager is stabbed in the chest once as blood poured out of the wound.
A tussle then unfolded before the woman was able to wrestle the knife out of the elderly man’s hand and thrown down the hall.
Gula and the elderly woman held the building manager who quickly steadied herself and started to scream for help.
The 83-year-old let go of the woman after another resident, Maria del Carmen Alonso, responded to the yelling.
“I was inside here and I heard some screams,” she told CBS.
Ms Alonso told the building manager to come inside her home.
“I held her hands. She passed our right here (in the kitchen),” she said.
According to authorities, the incident happened on August 4 on the tenth floor.
Police say one of the building managers had visited Gula to speak to him about a failed inspection of his unit when the alleged attack unfolded.
Gula was arrested at the scene and later charged with attempted second-degree murder.
The building manager was rushed to Ryder Trauma Centre.
It is understood she is at home resting and is expected to make a full recovery.
