At least three people were killed and two police officers wounded after a gunman opened fire in New Mexico in the US on Monday local time.

At least three people have been killed and two police officers wounded after a gunman opened fire in Farmington, New Mexico in the US on Monday local time.
Farmington police said the gunfire broke out in a residential area early in the morning, with multiple civilian victims.
The shooter, who has yet to be identified, was shot and killed by responding officers, with two of the police shot and wounded, the New York Post reports.
The officers, from the Farmington Police Department and New Mexico State Police, are both being treated for their injuries and are listed as being in a stable condition.
The shooting took place in a residential part of the town, in Dustin Ave between Ute Street and Apache Street, with the area placed in lockdown along with several nearby churches.
The exact location of the shooting and motive were not immediately revealed. Local and state police responded, as well as deputies with the San Juan County Sheriff’s office and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

One victim was reported to be a 35-year-old male who had been shot in the arm. One fatality, a young Caucasian male, was observed in the 700 block of⦠pic.twitter.com/Mh2fbeLiqY
The city has since lifted the lockdowns placed on local schools and medical centres.
The Farmington Municipal Schools District said schools received a notice to take shelter just after 11am due to police activity in the area.
The district said that none of its students or staff were injured in the shooting.
