Five Australians have emerged unscathed after a tourist boat carrying 80 passengers capsized off Bali’s coast, killing two and leaving one missing.

Five Australians are lucky to be alive after a boat capsized in Bali leaving two people dead and a third missing.

The fast boat travelling from Nusa Penida island was carrying 80 people when it was struck by large waves and capsized off Sanur in southeast Bali on Tuesday around 3pm local time (5pm AEST).

Denpasar Search and Rescue Agency said two Chinese nationals had died in the incident, while 77 survived and a 23-year-old Indonesian remained missing.

At least five Australians – three men and two women – had boarded the vessel.

Fifteen people were receiving treatment at Bali Mandara Hospital.

On Wednesday afternoon AEST, the hospital confirmed the Australian passengers escaped without injury.

The boat was carrying 73 foreigners, two Indonesians and five crew members, the rescue agency in Denpasar said.

The vessel, Dolphin II, was sailing from Nusa Penida port to Sanur port, when it capsized and ran aground.

Video from the scene shows the boat overturned on a beach near Sanur port as land and sea rescue personnel battle strong waves to help everyone to safety.

“We received the initial report to the Bali Province Disaster Management Operations Center (Pusdalops PB) at 4.25pm,” Head of the rescue agency in Bali’s provincial capital Denpasar, I Nyoman Sidakarya, said.

“We are continuing to gather information regarding the number of passengers and their current condition.

“From the video we received from locals, we could see that help was already being provided by nearby boats or vessels in the area,” he said.

Last month, a ferry sank on its way to Bali from eastern Java island, killing at least 19 people.

While in March, a boat carrying 16 people capsized in rough waters off Bali, killing an Australian woman and injuring at least one other person.
