Two Toowoomba police officers, with the Toowoomba Road Runners, are behind the inaugural event 40 for Fortey.
Through the event, Senior Constables Louise MacDonald and Geordie Horn will raise funds for a cause close to their hearts, in memory of their colleague Brett Forte who was killed in the line of duty on May 29 last year.
"It is a 40km event which you compete as an individual or as a team and all the money that we raise through the event will go to Police Legacy, which is an organisation that helps out police officers' families if a police officer has died or has a terminal illness," Snr Const MacDonald said.
"The police community, and the community in general in Toowoomba, I think that everyone wanted just to help out the police families who are struggling. That's why we came up with this event."
Teams can be up to 10 people, to complete 10 laps of the course starting from Katoomba Point Lookout at Prince Henry Heights.
Snr Const MacDonald said there had been a great response so far. It was hoped 40 for Fortey would become an annual event on the Toowoomba running calendar.
The May 27 race will start at 6am and at 8am there will be a 4km walk of remembrance, for anyone who wants to get involved. There will be a trophy for the fastest team and for the individual with the fastest lap time.
