IN A busy world of bells, whistles and alerts, finding the right moment to remember our brave Diggers isn’t always easy.

But Anzac Appeal organisers have tapped into technology to ensure everybody can get their time to reflect.

A prerecorded minute of silence can now be purchased by phone or text.

Proceeds from the phone call or text message go towards supporting veterans and their families.

The silence was recorded by more than 80 current and former serving Australian Defence Force members and their families including veterans from conflicts as recent as Afghanistan and Iraq.

Damien Thomlinson, Anzac Appeal spokesman and former SAS commando who lost his legs in Afghanistan, said it was an important way to raise funds.

“Our aim is to not only raise funds for the appeal around the nation but to highlight the valuable work that the RSL does with past and present service men, women and their families,” he said.

The money raised will go towards anything from financial assistance and living expenses to education, medical needs and advocacy.

To listen to the minute of silence, phone (Victoria) 1902 25 04 14 or (Tasmania) 1902 25 04 19, text the word SILENCE to 1999 1234 or minuteofsilence.com.au

ANZAC DAY MARCH

The 2014 Melbourne Anzac Day March will be led by veterans who have served after 1975, including peacekeeping and peace support operations in East Timor and the Solomons, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The group will leave from the corner of Swanston and Flinders Sts at 9am. The three main banners to form up behind are Afghanistan, Iraq and the Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans Association.
