They were quick to flex their muscles against their inevitable grand final rivals 19-0, before truly unleashing their attacking arsenal to steal the show in emphatic style.

It took less than five minutes for Helensvale to open their account in the decider, winning a lineout against the throw before the sheer strength of the forward pack proved too much to defend.

USC threatened to steal momentum back from the Hogs, pinning the Gold Coast powerhouses in their own end for much of the following 10 minutes, only for the determined defence of the eventual champions to come to the fore again and again.

Having withstood a mountain of pressure, it was fitting that Helensvale were able to cross again in the shadows of halftime; some brutal rushing defence on the USQ line ending with a cunning strip of possession to score.

Fresh out of the sheds, the Helensvale halfback took advantage of a quick penalty tap, weaving his way brilliantly through a scattered defensive line to touch down in the corner.

It kick started a procession for the blue and navy army, rarely looking troubled from that point onwards to finish with gold hanging around their necks.

In the under-16s division, the attack of the Gold Coast Eagles which was alluded to prior to kick off was on full show across the two days, culminating in an unbeaten championships.

Before a ball had been kicked, Eagles coach Grant Steffek hinted the weekend’s clashes could prove a daunting task for his young men, having never taken on Sunshine Coast champions Maroochydore and Darling Downs leaders the University of Southern Queensland.

However with a backline blessed with what Steffek lauded as the most speed and energy he had ever mentored, the Gold Coast outfit mixed flair with a grinding mentality to close out a 19-12 win over USQ before a heart-stopping 30-26 triumph over the Swans on Sunday.

Any fears they may burn out from such a fast start were then quickly allayed on the final day.

Within four minutes of their second clash against Maroochydore the power of the Eagles forwards became evident, as they took advantage of field position to edge their way over the line from a series of pick and drive pursuits.

The yellow and blue-clad youngsters would then extend their margin through a skilful grubber in behind the line, however the Swans hit back late in the half via a brilliant chip and regather.

But despite trading tries in the second stanza Eagles would not be denied, as they stormed home to a 32-14 triumph before backing it up against USQ in what proved to be a grandstand finish for the championships. .

USQ caused some anxious moments for the eventual champions, scoring on the stroke of halftime to level proceedings before counter attacking again to set up an enthralling climax.

However, as they had done across all their matches, Steffeks’ young men held their nerve in palpable scenes, closing out the 14-12 victory and announcing their intentions for season 2023.
