Two police officers allegedly mowed down by stolen ute in Ballarat

Dramatic footage has captured the moment two police officers were dragged through a Ballarat car wash by the driver of an allegedly stolen ute.

Dramatic footage has emerged of a wild car wash confrontation in which police were injured at Ballarat.

Sunday’s incident unfolded as officers hunted a 30-year-old man who had allegedly been on the run for over a week.

The members saw a stolen Commodore he had allegedly been using at a car wash at Lucas where he was parked with a 19-year-old woman.

The CCTV shows the driver rummaging around the front of the Commodore with its door open as a policeman runs to the vehicle with his baton raised before trying to drag the suspect out.

The officer tries to get him out but he resists and the driver is repeatedly struck to the legs as a female officer holds the door open.

The incident left two police officers injured.

Footage shows the teenage passenger appearing to shift the transmission lever before moving her leg across to the pedals as the driver struggled with the male cop.

The Commodore, with a load of tyres in the back, lurches forward before it is put into reverse and surges out of the cleaning bay.

Both police are dragged along and the male is flung to the ground as the Holden exits the Carngham Rd business.

The 19-year-old was arrested soon after in Wattle Ave, Wendouree, after jumping fences and trying to flee investigators on foot.

The alleged driver, from Ballarat, was arrested as he refuelled a vehicle at a service station on the Western Highway in Ballan on Monday afternoon.

He has been charged with reckless conduct endangering life, assaulting police, aggravated intentional exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, dangerous driving while pursued by police, cannabis possession, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, driving while disqualified and handling stolen goods.
