A teenager accused of killing Melbourne doctor Ash Gordon following a home invasion allegedly told a friend “n--gers just killed him” moments after the fatal stabbing.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is standing trial in the Supreme Court, accused of murdering Dr Gordon, 33, near his Doncaster home.

Prosecutors allege the GP was stabbed six times by the accused after he and three others broke into his Sargent St home in the early hours of January 13 last year.

The boy has pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted to two counts of aggravated burglary of Dr Gordon’s home.

Giving evidence on Friday, one of the intruders, now aged 18, told the jury the accused made the racial remark shortly after the stabbing.

“He was referring to himself,” he said.

He told the court the accused also showed him a bloodied knife and said he had “yinged” — slang for stabbed — Dr Gordon.

The teen said the group later discussed plans to steal a car, flee to the Gold Coast, and charter a flight to Papua New Guinea.

He said he felt he “didn’t have much of a choice” but to join them, claiming he was threatened with violence if he spoke out, though the plan never eventuated.

“I was obviously part of the whole situation and they wanted me to come with them,” he said.

“They were talking about how this is a serious thing that happened ... if any one of us got caught, we were going to jail for a long time. They told me if I told anyone, they’d kill me.”

The court earlier heard the accused, then 16, had been at a friend’s house party a few doors down from Dr Gordon’s home when he and an accomplice broke in through a partially open garage door.

They stole Nike shoes, laptops, car keys, necklaces and a wallet, before returning to the party to boast about their loot, the jury was told.

Less than an hour later, they returned with two others intending to steal Dr Gordon’s Mercedes AMG — but the doctor was woken by the noise and gave chase in his car.

One of the intruders told the court Dr Gordon found three of them hiding in a driveway on nearby Eildon St.

“He got out of the car, he’s yelling ‘there’s no point running, police are coming’,” he said.

He told the court he and another boy jumped a fence, leaving the accused in the driveway. Seconds later, they heard their friend call out for help.

When they returned, he said, they saw Dr Gordon staggering before collapsing to the ground.

“(The other boy) would have been near the front of the path then ran over to him and kicked him in the face,” he said.

A video of the crime scene was played to the jury, showing Dr Gordon’s body laying on Eildon St beside his Mercedes with the driver side door open.

After the stabbing, the teen said the group fled before regrouping nearby where the accused showed the knife and said he had “yinged” the doctor.

“He said (he) wasn’t sure if he was alive or dead,” he said.

Later, back at the party house, the accused allegedly said he had stabbed Dr Gordon four or five times and but “didn’t realise” the blade “went in” until the third stab.

“He said that’s when he realised he was killing him,” the teen said.

He said there was a lot of “panic” and “freaking out”, with police shutting down the street and Dr Gordon’s death being reported on the television news later that day.

The accused and another teen allegedly fled the home when officers knocked on the front door.

The accused’s lawyer earlier told the jury self-defence would be a key issue in the trial.

The trial continues.
