Teenager fighting for life after Seaford shooting

Police will investigate if a gunshot at a house in Melbourne’s southeast that left a teenage boy in critical condition may have been an accident.

Police are investigating the shooting at a home in Seaford.

Police are expected to investigate whether a shooting at Seaford that left a teenager fighting for life was the result of misadventure.

Emergency services were called to a property on Glen Alvie St about 4.30pm on Sunday after reports a gun had been fired.

A teenage boy, believed to be aged 16, was found at the home with a gunshot wound.

He was rushed to hospital where he remained in a critical condition on Monday morning.

The Herald Sun understands an accident is one key line of inquiry in the wounding of the boy.

He remains in hospital after being taken from the scene in a critical condition.

Any witnesses at the property will be interviewed as part of the inquiry.

They will look into who owned the weapon and whether it was registered.

Ballistics experts are expected to play a role in the investigation.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said she heard screaming at the time of the shooting.

“(I) heard helicopters overhead and someone screaming,” she told the Herald Sun on Monday morning.

Another resident on the street said he was shocked by the shooting.

“It’s horrible what’s happened, and to a teenage boy, too, I can’t believe it,” he said.

A woman who has lived opposite the home for many years said while there had been issues with previous occupants, the current family who lived in the home were “lovely” people.

“We have never had any issues with them, no noise complaints or anything like that,” she said.

While the woman and her husband weren’t home on Sunday afternoon, she said the alleged shooting could not be seen or heard in CCTV footage captured from outside their home.

“We couldn’t see or hear anything,” she said.

“Police cordoned off both ends of the street and were here until probably 1am this morning.

“The investigation seemed to be focused inside the home, though.”

She agreed the incident was strange for the residential street, and said her thoughts were with the young boy.

“It’s really unfortunate and I hope he’s OK,” she added.

A Victoria Police statement said: “At this early-stage detectives are not actively looking for anyone else in relation to the matter and the investigation is ongoing.”
