Prime Minister Scott Morrison has joined TikTok, posting a selfie video with his dog Bud wishing all Australians a safe and merry Christmas.

TikTok is an app that allows users to create and share short videos on any topic of their liking and is hugely popular with younger audiences.

Using the handle ‘pm_scomo’, Mr Morrison posted a 14-second selfie video on Christmas Eve which had already amassed more than 500 likes.

“G’Day TikTok, merry Christmas from me and Bud,” the PM said.

“Stay safe, think of those obviously doing it a bit tough.

“I’ll catch you later, stay safe, merry Christmas.”

Another selfie video of Mr Morrison in front of his Christmas tree was uploaded on Christmas Day.

“Well merry Christmas Australia, yeah it’s been a tough year there’s no doubt about that,” he said.

“We’ve faced many challenges together and we’re doing it again with this Omicron variant but we’ll get through that too.”

The PM paid tribute to volunteers who were helping others during the festive period.

“Thank you so much for what you do,” he said.

“You’re the ones who make Australia such a wonderful place.”

He signed off with “god bless”.
