Victoria’s most popular baby names for 2024 are in – with one favourite coming in hot again at number one for the 11th year in a row, while a new name has topped the list for baby girls.

The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria will on Tuesday officially unveil the top 100 popular baby names of the past year.

With 79,239 births registered in Victoria last year, the Herald Sun can reveal that Isla has been crowned the most popular baby name for girls for the first time in Victoria, while Oliver has claimed an impressive 11-year winning streak.

With 570 new bubs named Oliver in the past 12 months, it is competing to break the all-time record.

But it will need to stay on top for another 13 years to overtake the name John – which reigned supreme for 23 years between 1929 to 1951.

Behind Oliver on the list of most common boy names last year was Noah, Henry, Leo, Theodore, Luca and Charlie.

John Pearce from The Wiggles and his wife Jessie named their newborn son Henry, which was the third most popular boys name in Victoria last year.

A total of 389 little girls were named Isla, beating Charlotte (382) and Amelia (380).

Mia, Hazel, Olivia and Matilda, with Grace, Ella and Lily rounded out the top 10.

Theodore had a big boost in popularity in 2024, jumping from spot 14 to four, while Muhammad and Xavier made the top 20 instead of Alexander and Sebastian.
