The Mentalist star Simon Baker has been charged with drink driving, ahead of the Logies where he has been nominated for a major award.
The 55-year-old is set to appear in court next month, charged with “attempt to drive while under influence of alcohol – first offence” and “drive vehicle under influence of alcohol – first offence”.
He does not have bail conditions attached to the charges.
The Hollywood actor is nominated for a TV Week Logie Award on Sunday for his starring role in Boy Swallows Universe.
The hit Netflix series is nominated for a staggering 11 awards – the most of any other actor or show.
Baker earned himself a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his portrayal of Patrick Jane in The Mentalist between 2008 and 2015.
He has also won multiple AACTA awards and been nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe gongs, and starred in Breath, Blaze and High Ground.
Baker got his start in Aussie soaps such as E Street, A Country Practice and Home And Away, when he was known as Simon Baker-Denny.
It was revealed he had split with his actor wife Rebecca Rigg in 2021.
The couple met on a blind date in 1991 and married in 1998.
They also acted together in the early stages of their relationship, both appearing in the popular Aussie soapie E-Street.
In 2015 Baker told News Corp that Rigg was “the greatest woman any man could ever hope to make a life with,” adding, “marrying her was the best decision I ever made.”
The pair have three adult children, Stella, Claude and Harry, who were raised in Los Angeles.
It’s understood Mr Baker spent much of his youth in the NSW northern rivers region and owns a property in Nashua near Byron Bay.
Baker has a long history in the region, having spent much of his youth in Lennox Head.
Following his marriage breakdown, he briefly dated Byron Bay activewear designer Laura May Gibbs.
Following their split, Ms Gibbs slammed rumours that he broke up with her because she attended an anti-vaccine mandate protest.
Baker will appear before a magistrate at Mullumbimby local court on September 4.
