Fire crews rush to douse factory blazes in Dandenong South
Scores of firefighters have been battling an out-of-control blaze at a factory in Melbourne’s southeast, while police investigate the cause of another fire nearby.
Police are investigating whether a fire at a Dandenong South factory on Saturday morning was arson.
The blaze was one of two in Dandenong South overnight and the third major fire incident in the suburb in recent days.
Emergency services were called to the Ruhr St factory at about 2am in response to reports it had gone up in flames.
“At this stage, the fire is being treated as suspicious,” a Victoria Police statement said.
Four hours later, firefighters were called back to Dandenong South to battle a separate factory fire.
Sixteen Fire Rescue Victoria vehicles were at the scene at the height of the inferno in Lanyon St.
The fire, fought by officers in breath apparatus, was still burning late on Saturday morning.
No cause has been officially determined but it is not believed to be suspicious.
A monster blaze engulfed a lighter factory in Kimberley St, Dandenong South, on Tuesday.
There were loud explosions at the height of the fire, which has been assessed as non-suspicious.
