The distraught owners of a stolen dog are pleading for its safe return after the beloved pooch was taken from outside an inner-city grocer in broad daylight.
Roger, a Jack Russel cross Fox Terrier, was tied up in front of Cato Fruit & Vegetable in Prahran, near Prahran Square, on Tuesday while his owner ran inside to grab groceries.
But when they returned Roger was nowhere to be found.
The Herald Sun understands a female person of interest was captured on CCTV allegedly walking off with the small dog around 12.25pm.
Owner Rosie Eldershaw was returning from Melbourne Airport when she learned Roger, who was with a loved one at the time, had disappeared.
“I don’t even know what to do. I’ve got everyone from our local dog park sharing posts and looking for him,” she said.
Ms Eldershaw said staff reportedly saw the person of interest board the #78 tram headed toward North Richmond with Roger.
The 2.5-year-old pooch has distinct markings on his face, with a brown patch over each eye and wears a red collar.
Anyone with information or CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 00 or make a report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
